Confirm live award space and program terms before transferring. Transfers are commonly irreversible; programs can devalue, impose surcharges, restrict accounts, or fail to make the expected award available.

01

How this calculator works

The required source points equal partner points divided by the partner-points-per-source-point ratio and transfer-bonus multiplier, rounded up to a whole point.

Source points requiredCeiling[partner points needed ÷ (transfer ratio × (1 + transfer bonus))]

Value the bookable award, not a theoretical chart

Comparable cash price minus unavoidable award taxes, fees, and rewards forgone is the usable cash-equivalent value. Dividing by source points produces cents per source point for this specific redemption.

Availability deserves a haircut

An award seen once may disappear before points arrive. The confidence setting discounts usable value before comparing it with your minimum source-point value. It is a scenario control, not a statistical probability.

Why this page does not hardcode a partner matrix

Partners, ratios, transfer times, bonuses, award pricing, surcharges, and eligibility change. A stale matrix can be worse than no matrix. Verify the issuer and loyalty-program terms immediately before an irreversible transfer.

Do not transfer speculatively without accepting the risk.

Most transfers cannot be reversed. Confirm award space, passenger/date rules, account names, transfer increments, expiration, and total fees first.

Worked example

A 100,000-point partner award at 1:1 with a 25% transfer bonus requires 80,000 source points, saving 20,000 source points.

Partner points100,000
Transfer bonus25%
Source points80,000

If comparable cash price is $2,000, award fees are $100, and forgone rewards are $50, usable value is $1,850 or 2.31 cents per source point before the availability haircut.

Questions people ask

What is a credit card transfer partner?

It is an airline, hotel, or other loyalty program that can receive points from an issuer program under current transfer terms.

How does a 25% transfer bonus work?

Each source point produces 1.25 partner points at a normal 1:1 ratio, so a 100,000-point award needs 80,000 source points.

Should taxes and fees reduce point value?

Yes. Subtract cash paid on the award and relevant rewards forgone from the comparable cash price.

What cash price should I compare?

Use the fare or room you would actually buy with similar restrictions—not an inflated flexible price you would never pay.

Are point transfers reversible?

Usually not. Confirm live award availability and all terms before initiating the transfer.
